50s Dresses Vs Current Dresses
One of the most dynamic industries in the world today is that one of fashion and dressing. This is especially so with the celebrities. It is possible that when they are being given a certain award for their achievements or are attending a certain red carpet function, we always have to get one celebrity who will steal the show by gracing the occasion with one of their custom made styles and dresses.
The current dresses and the 50s dresses are similar. Why I say this is because most of the designs on the dresses in out current time have been borrowed from the 50s dresses. Take, for example, the prom dress. Prom started becoming very common in the 50s. It is at this period that many designers began making 50s dresses for prom. They had this ‘poofy’ look on them that is quite common in the current prom dresses that are worn by out high school teenagers.
One of the things about the 1950s was that women wanted to show off their bodies and boys wanted to reveal their bad side. In this way, fashion came into play and there were popular fashions that everyone loved or tried to love. Talk about Grease and lots of it!
One of the 50s dresses that was common among the women was the pencil and poodles skirts. The Pencil shirts were tight and very long under the knee and just straight like a pencil. The pencil was very popular 50s dress among women. Similarly the poodle skirts were big and wide. These poodle skirts were also very popular.
Another type of 50s dresses was leather. This was mainly for the boys. It was no ordinary leather but a ‘cool’ one. Many of the boys at that time believed that in order to attract the girls, one had to have one of these leather jackets with the collars worn up so that the boys could show their ‘bad boy look’.
The use of gloves was one of the other popular accessories in the 50’s. It was really rare to see woman without gloves in those days, is like seeing a celebrity without make up in these days. Some of the places where gloves would be worn to were fancy restaurants, parties and whatever special occasion that was there to be attended. These gloves came in all lengths and patterns. The most popular type of gloves worn was white short gloves.
Last but not least, the types of shoes worn then were simple and plain. Some of the popular types of shoes during the 1950’s were ballet slippers, plain black and white shoes that look like sneakers. Women usually loved to were spiked heels or stilettos.
